Planning Out Your Day in Your Digital Planner
This blog post is about how we plan out our day using our digital planner. We share why it’s important, and how we go about it.
Why should you plan out your day?
Planning out your day is a great way to start off your day. It allows you to pinpoint what you want to get done, and create a plan of action for that to happen.
A few reasons we like to plan out our day include:
It allows us to orient ourselves
It gives us time to think about what we want to accomplish
It allows us to have moments of reflection throughout the day
We are able to look back on our day(at some point in the future) and reminisce
Set-Up
Our setup is very similar to how we set-up for planning our week. Typically we are in a quiet place, we have headphones on and are listening to relaxing music, in addition to setting aside 5-15 minutes for planning.
Ideally we have prepped each day with the base info beforehand. The base info being: the date, the calendar with the day highlighted, and our weekly intention. If we haven’t done this, this is the time to do so.
Quote of the Day:
The first thing we like to do when planning out our day is choose a Quote of the day. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. We like to choose quotes that resonate with how we are feeling or how we want to feel throughout the day.
Typically, we will source our quotes from Pinterest or from our own personal quote bank.
Timeblocks, Appointments, and Meetings:
Our next item we tackle is to insert any timeblocks, appointments or meetings that we may have for that day.
On Monday-Friday, I block off the time I am at my day job. Usually that’s the only timeframe where I’ll be doing time-blocks. However, if on the weekends I have a finite amount of time to get things done, I will make sure to block off that time to take action towards my goals.
If I have an important meeting or appointment I will add it into my daily schedule at this point.
Review Week Spread / Previous Day’s To-Do List
At this point, I start to move on to my “To-Do” list. The first thing I will do is to review my week spread and see what I have assigned for the day I am currently in. I’ll copy and paste those items into my current day spread.
Next, I will review the previous day’s “To-Do” list to see if there is anything I put on there that didn’t get done. If there is, (and I want to get it done), I’ll transfer it over to the current day as well.
TO-DO LIST
This is where I will add everything I want to get done for the day. The question I like to ask myself is: What is one goal I have in relation to these categories and what is something I can do today that will get me a bit closer to my goal?
I like to break it down into categories, and ask myself what I am needing to get done for the day. Right now my categories are: Personal, Home Improvement, Doggo, Business, and Work.
Typically I have a running list of things that I want to get done each day that I write when they pop into my head; so I’ll generally review that list and add items from it.
I also have a fair amount of things that I get done on time specific day, so I make sure to add those to my day’s “To-Do” list.
For example, on Monday I review my analytics from the previous week. On Wednesdays, I do a weekly check-in for my business and personal goals. On Fridays, I plan out my upcoming week.
Identify 3 Priorities:
After I have created my to-do list, I will choose 3 items that are the most important to me for me to complete. These are the 3 items I will be prioritizing throughout the day.
I will highlight these 3 items, and copy and paste them into my “Priority” section of my digital planner.
Exercise and Self-Care
On occasion, i will preemptively decide what type of exercise and self-care I will do for the day. Some days I plan this out, some days I use these spots in my planner after I have already done them as more of a log.
Using Your Digital Planner Throughout the Day
I like to use the day spread throughout the day. I generally use the notes section for any ideas that come up.
I also use the day spread as a way to track my meals to see if I have any reactions to a particular food, my energy levels to see if there are any patterns, and for my mental and physical health.
Digital Planning at Night
I use my day spread at night as a grounding and reflecting practice. I will use the gratitude section to jot 3 things I am grateful for from that day. I also check off my to-dos from my list.
Sometimes I will pinpoint things that I haven’t accomplished that day that I want to achieve and I will add it to my “To-Do” list for the next day.
That’s it! This is how we use our digital planner to plan out our day + how we use our day spread throughout the day and in the evening. We hope this was a informative post that gave you a few ideas of how to use your digital planner daily. If you’d like, feel free to leave us a comment sharing how you use your digital planner’s day spread :)
Wishing you oodles of joy and happy planning :)
